Diabetes on Demand is a mobile application that allows you to manage your daily diet in a simple, attractive and balanced way, breaking the topic that diabetes prevents you from enjoying good food and the pleasure of eating.
The IDIBAPS Research Center and the Alícia Foundation (Food and Science) lead this project, with the collaboration of ESTEVE.
In the application you will find the following tools:
1. Carbohydrate calculator: It allows you to calculate, according to the variables entered, the recommended amount of carbohydrates according to the needs of each person.
2. Dish method: allows to create varied and healthy menus adapted to the needs of the person with diabetes and their families in an easy way and without major complications. With this system it is promoted to make equivalent menus without altering the amount of carbohydrates that will be ingested, thus obtaining a better control of your diabetes.
It also allows you to know the amount of carbohydrates you will consume when you are in a restaurant, incorporating food and quantities into the application ...
"The idea is that in a normal-sized plate the main menu, lunch or dinner, is divided into four parts. Two quarters for salad or vegetable, since its carbohydrate content is very low. A quarter of the dish will be for the protein: meat, fish or eggs. And in the other quarter we will put the flours, such as rice, pasta, potatoes, legumes. In addition, a piece of medium-sized fruit and bread will be included if necessary. "
3. Equivalences: Foods are exposed in the amount provided by 20 grams of carbohydrates (equivalent to 2 sachets of sugar).
4. Recipes: Very simple and easy to prepare, it includes both the adaptation of dishes from traditional cuisine and more creative dishes or from other cultures.
In all recipes the amount of carbohydrates contained in the dish is shown, also specified as equivalent of sugar sachets.
